Fatigue & Your Immune System - Part 3

Updated: Nov 9, 2023

The Final Stages of Recovery

In this final article on Immune Health Support we're looking at the last 2 stages of recovery - Mitochondrial Resuscitation and Immuno-Rejuvenation

As we adjust to life returning to normal and with many of us once again working from the office or opening up our businesses, we're becoming more aware of the effects that the multiple lockdowns and restrictions have had on our minds and bodies.

Many people are feeling heightened anxiety and stress from having to travel on public transport and being around larger groups of people and for them it's a very real problem.

A lot of us have enjoyed working from home and got used to a new way of structuring our days, working at a calmer and less stressful pace, whilst being just as productive if not more so.

And for those suffering with the debilitating symptoms of poor immune health, having to travel, work in a noisy and busier environment, unable to take a rest when they need to, and also being away from home for long hours each day is proving to be overwhelming and distressing.

Here at Nimaya we've seen a big increase in the number of clients coming in during and after work, to take advantage of our treatments that allow them to recharge and re-set both mentally and physically.

The Third Strategy - Mitochondrial Resuscitation

It sounds a bit extreme but in simple terms it's enabling your body's cells batteries to recover and recharge. Mitochondria are organelles found in our body's cells that power the biochemical reactions. The mitochondria produce ATP molecules (adenosine triphosphate) which provide the chemical energy needed to power the reactions in each cell.

Without it, all cellular functions cease to exist. When the mitochondria malfunction due to injury, infection, disease or just age in general, ATP production is reduced and energy levels in the cells become depleted.

The cells have insufficient amounts of oxygen and nutrients to sustain them, and it can lead to slow recovery, inflammation, infection, poor brain function, low immune health and it’s like your whole body functions are on a go slow.

Red Light Therapy

Red light therapy uses the healing power of specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared pulsed light waves. The light penetrates the skin and stimulates the production of ATP molecules in the mitochondria. An increase in ATP allows the cells to accept nutrients faster and also get rid of waste products by increasing energy levels in the cell.

In just a 20 minute session relaxing on our Red Light Therapy bed, it simply and effectively assists your body in its own natural healing ability, gently and effectively with no side effects

Other recommended actions for restoring the mitochondria are ensuring you get enough sleep, making sure you balance your rest and activity periods and taking time out when you need it, detoxifying your body by cutting out alcohol, smoking and drugs, and supplementing your diet with magnesium, coenzyme Q10 and NADH.

The Fourth Strategy - Immuno Rejuvenation

The latest research has found that where the immune system has been damaged as a result of the viral infection, the damage continues to the immune system, even after the immediate chronic infection has passed. It causes inflammation to the system which perpetuates the symptoms, such as muscle aches and pains, fatigue, depression and digestive problems.

The solution is to not just support the damaged cells within the immune system, but to actually replace them through a process called autophagy. Autophagy is a natural process whereby the body’s cells clean out any unnecessary or damaged parts, and autophagic flux is the measure of the how well this process is carried out by the body. It's crucial for maintaining energy balance and keeping cells alive. If there is a problem in the autophagy process and a decrease in the autophagic flux it can lead to disease. There are a number of ways to stimulate and support this autophagic flux.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Nimaya MindStation is one of the few wellness centres in the UK where you can experience a Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) in a personal chamber.

Research has found that HBOT helps to stimulate the autophagic flux process which in turn supports the recovery and repair of the damaged immune system cells.

A Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy session involves you lying in a personal chamber whilst 97% pure oxygen is fed in at a slightly higher than normal pressure.

By breathing in pure oxygen at this pressurised level, your lungs take in more oxygen and your blood absorbs more oxygen. This results in enhanced performance and increased endurance, quick recovery, improved fitness and overall rehabilitation.

Helpful Nutrients

Another way to support the repair of the immune system is to provide the body with the nutrients needed for cellular renewal, including vitamins C and D, zinc, and plant flavonoids which include quercetin, rutin and hesperidin, which help cleanse, regenerate, rejuvenate the immune system. Flavonoids can be found in brightly coloured fruit and vegetables.

Implementing the Four Strategies of Immune Health Recovery.

Implementing the four strategies of immune health recovery - gastrointestinal restoration, detoxification, mitochondrial resuscitation and immuno-rejuvenation - will address and treat the underlying causes involved, rather than trying to just manage the symptoms, and will have a very real potential to bring about a completely recovery.
